Hyderabad: India’s Vice President, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, opened the second annual Interventional Respiratory Medicine International Conference, BRONCHUS 2021, hosted by Yashoda Hospitals here. The two-day event will focus on best practices in interventional pulmonology, from the basics to the most advanced diagnostics and treatments.
In his speech, the vice president said that the field of pulmonology was developing by leaps and bounds. Interventional pulmonology now used sophisticated techniques such as robotic-assisted procedures and confocal microscopy. Today, life-threatening airway tumors can be stented. Even asthma now has biologic pharmaceuticals and tuberculosis has a shorter treatment regimen with fewer drugs, he said.
He added that while urban India could benefit from these technologies, there was a dire lack of such facilities in rural areas. He called on the private sector to complement government efforts to create good health care in rural India by opening satellite centers of their facilities. He also urged stakeholders to find ways to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for citizens.
