Calcutta: Off-site vaccination sites set up by private hospitals in city shopping malls plan to increase workforce and infrastructure to meet needs of more people as a result doubts over the administration of the drug following the scam of the fake vaccination camp that rocked the city last week. On Monday, two more off-site camps were opened by government agencies NKDA and NDITA in New Town and Salt Lake Sector V.
In June, five shopping centers in the city vaccinated more than 25,000 people, including some of their staff. Although two shopping centers have since ceased the camps, the other three continue to offer the vaccination to all adults eligible for the vaccine. On Monday, the three camps vaccinated around 750 people who took the first or second dose.
Officials from AMRI and IQ City Medical College, which run vaccination centers in shopping malls, said they were ready to accommodate 25% more people with an increase in staff. Beyond this number, the space of the site should be increased. On Monday, however, fewer people showed up than usual, possibly because they were unsure whether the camps would be operational following an order from the state health department to shut down the camps. offsite at the moment.
Sangita Chakraborty, who took the first dose at the South City Mall on Monday, said she preferred the mall to visiting hospitals because there was less chance of getting an infection there. “I felt comfortable and didn’t have to worry about the clutter. There was also no hassle of standing in line for hours, ”she said.
While the South City and Acropolis camps operate from noon to 6 p.m., the Mani Square camp operates from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. While the South City Mall has a walk-in, walk-in vaccination center, the Acropolis and Mani Square camps are walk-in facilities.
On Monday, two more drive-by vaccination centers were introduced in Sector V of Salt Lake and in the new town. “It’s an on-site vaccination center for all adults. People will not have to get out of the car. A nurse will vaccinate the occupants of the car while they are seated in it, ”NKDA and NDITA President Debashis Sen said after the inauguration by Urban Development Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya.
While the Sector V facility has been installed at the multi-storey car park, the New Town facility is being held at the Eco Park Gate 1 car park. The twin facilities will operate from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. In total, around 100 to 120 were vaccinated there on Monday.
Those who drove praised the initiative. “The installation was smooth and hassle-free. It was essential at a time when there is so much confusion, ”said Sumana Bhattacharya, who had come from Howrah to get the vaccine. “This initiative was necessary because many IT employees will now be able to come and get vaccinated along the way. in the office, ”said Kalyan Kar, vice-president of the V Sector Stakeholders Association.
