ABSTRACT-
Global depth filtration market to reach $2.9 billion by 2026
Depth filtration represents a process in which suspended particles or liquid droplets are separated from the carrier fluid within the thickness or depth of the filter media. A depth filter is basically a sponge meant to remove submicron particles, colloidal materials and soluble materials. The flow rates and loading capacities of depth filters are generally higher than those of membrane filters. The depth filtration process is widely used in downstream bioprocessing, to separate cells and cellular debris and other colloidal material from liquids. A wide range of filter sheet media is used for depth filtration for turbidity removal, polishing filtration, cooling haze removal, colloidal removal, removal of microorganisms such as bacteria, yeasts and molds, and the elimination of microbial spoilage, among others. Clarification of cell culture supernatants can be done easily with normal-flow or common-flow filtration in which a member with a specific pore size or porous materials with decreasing pore sizes, depending on the thickness of the filter, are used. When a membrane of defined pore size is used for filtration, also called dead-end filtration, the material is retained on the surface of the filter whereas with depth filters such filter cakes are not not form. Depth filtration retains particles smaller than pores. With pore size gradients, different particle sizes can be separated.
Amid COVID-19 crisis, Global Deep Filtration Market Estimated at US$2.2 billion in 2022, is expected to reach a revised size of US$2.9 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 8.3% over the analysis period. Diatomaceous earth, one of the segments analyzed in the report, is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9.2% to reach US$1.3 billion at the end of the analysis period. After a thorough analysis of the business implications of the pandemic and the induced economic crisis, Cellulose segment growth is readjusted to a revised CAGR of 8.2% for the next 7-year period. This segment currently accounts for a 28.4% share of the global depth filtration market.
The US market is estimated at $730.7 million in 2022, when China is expected to reach $327.7 million by 2026
The depth filtration market in the United States is estimated at US$730.7 million in 2022. The country currently accounts for a 33.11% share of the global market. Chinaworld’s second largest economy, is expected to reach an estimated market size of US$327.7 million in 2026 with a CAGR of 10.8% over the analysis period. Other notable geographic markets include Japan and Canada, each predicting growth of 6.9% and 7.6% respectively over the analysis period. In Europe, Germany is expected to grow around 7.7% CAGR while the rest of the European market (as defined in the study) will reach US$353.5 million at the end of the analysis period.
Rising production of large molecules and biologics is a major growth driver for the market. Rising demand for biopharmaceuticals combined with increasing expenditure on biopharmaceutical R&D is driving the growth of the market. The pharmaceutical industry is increasing the demand for clean, high quality filtration products for use in API production and for filtering different buffers and media. Filters are primarily used for the downstream purification of turbid feed streams and cell culture centrates before loading them onto chromatography columns. The depth filtration market is also driven by the growing use of single-use or disposable filtration technologies. Depth filtration is a critical process necessary to manufacture pure, high quality products. Depth filters would also be widely used in wastewater purification. Deep sand filters are used in the final stages of drinking water treatment. The rising importance given to sewage treatment in countries across the globe would therefore emerge as a significant growth driver for the market over the coming years. Additionally, depth filters are inexpensive and can be used easily, two other factors driving their increased adoption. Additionally, advances in technology lead to constant changes in the design of depth filters. The depth filters available today offer better filtration capabilities than the previous ones. The market is witnessing an increasing demand for lower capacity filters with higher density harvest. Manufacturers are currently making every effort to meet this market demand. Manufacturers are also focusing on developing synthetic polymer depth filters that can eliminate current limitations with conventional cellulose media.
Activated carbon segment to reach $484.6 million by 2026
Activated carbon is a ubiquitous material that finds use in a myriad of applications ranging from water treatment, air purification, food and beverage processing, medical and pharmaceutical production, and automotive pollution control cartridges, among others. Activated carbon filters are widely used to purge carbon dioxide, nitrogen, siloxes, volatile organic compounds, hydrogen dioxide as well as elemental metals such as mercury from natural gas odors and others gaseous air pollutants. Activated carbons are cost effective technologies that align with environmental regulations and also have a smaller footprint compared to other odor control technologies. In the global activated carbon segment, United States, Canada, Japan, China and Europe will drive the CAGR of 7.4% estimated for this segment. These regional markets representing a combined market size of US$242.5 million will reach a projected size of US$398.6 million at the end of the analysis period. China will remain among the most dynamic in this group of regional markets. Led by countries such as Australia, Indiaand South Koreathe market of Asia Pacific should reach 40 million US dollars by 2026, while Latin America will increase at a CAGR of 8.5% over the analysis period.
