Milan, Italy and Philadelphia, PA, June 17, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Bracco Imaging SpA (Bracco), an international leader in all modalities of diagnostic imaging solutions, and BDP International (BDP, a member of the PSA Group), a leading provider of integrated supply chain, transportation and logistics solutions globally, have successfully completed a one-of-a-kind move for the Bracco Group. On behalf of Bracco, BDP arranged the transport of two forty-foot refrigerated reefer containers via the Trans-Asian Railway from Italy to China, marking the maiden voyage of this unique temperature-controlled method of transport.
Bracco places the concept of sustainability at the heart of its operations and therefore seeks to reduce environmental impacts, particularly within its supply chain. To accelerate its sustainability initiatives, Bracco approached BDP about the feasibility of designing a transportation solution that would move freight entirely overland to reduce carbon emissions. BDP implemented a solution that combined sustainable routing with innovative new technologies using in-container IoT sensors to measure temperature, humidity and light levels, product movement traceability, as well as updates. real-time quality updates to ensure flawless product integrity during transport.
Thanks to the success of the project, Bracco saw a 40% reduction in carbon emissions using rail transport compared to maritime transport, cementing an important foundation to continue its commitment as an industry leader in sustainable operations.
“For Bracco, sustainability is an integral part of our mission and our daily operations,” said Maurizio Zanetti, Logistics Manager – Bracco SpA. “With highly sensitive products that require no temperature deviation, it was essential to deploy a solution that maintained the highest degree of quality while simultaneously minimizing our carbon footprint; this “first” is quite an impressive feat of which we are very proud. Bracco looks forward to advancing our sustainability goals through continued collaboration with BDP. »
“BDP is honored to partner with Bracco on this initiative which highlights the critical importance of more environmentally friendly modes of transport,” said Gerry Fama, Vice President Sales – Europe, BDP International. “With new market dynamics and the expanded capabilities of PSA’s global network of rail and inland terminals, the use of rail services will be an arena for continued growth in reducing CO2 emissions and accelerating the supply chain. .”
